Also, this is not “spec work”, so Agencies cannot and will not send a potential employment prospect to prove themselves and thereby work for free.
BTW & IMHO, if any agency ever asks you to do free spec work, say no and blow-them-up on social media. They are not working for free and nor should you. Also, no one should be marginalized and then leveraged to try to get a job. Also, unpaid or low-paid interns are BS too. – Mark Derho
I’ve never stopped learning and studying and getting better at my craft. I try to grow as a human being everyday too. I hate losing and therefore I strive and pursue the “commitment to excellence”, as was first dictated then defined by the great Al Davis.
The gestalt web design competition will consider modern tecnical specifications and measurable and include quantifiable and accepted standards of indutry-excellence.
I know there are a few big name fancy-pantsy award-winning important agencies that are anchored here in San Juan. Frankly, I am truly unimpressed with 95% of the work I have seen so far. And, I’ve seen it all before from working and competing on the Internet in essentially every vertical in NYC for close to 30-years.
As a kid, I took karate and proceeded to beat-up big bullies as a sport. I’m the “little guy” that will also stand with and for “the little guy”. I support charity and community. I love an underdog, and I am competitive as hell.
I challenge Saho McCann.
You’re my neighbor but you are not very neighborly (remember LinkedIn). Your website looks like your parking lot, very busy and loud. Congratulations, you’ve got a ton of awards and a giant shop. The colorful “PR-authentic art design” on your site is fine-enough. Have you ever heard of “organic on-site SEO”? You might not need it, but your clients certainly do! Your site is modern-enough with lots of video, but where are the links to your client’s sites? All sizzzle, no steak.
I challenge Websoft PR.
Would you like me to correctly configure your website SSL certificate for you? Joomla is outdated and unpopular with professionals for many reasons. Your own website is laden with stock images weak and lack any sense of creativity. Sadly, your site is trash. And why can’t I see your client websites? I guess I know why. https://websoftpr.com/
I challenge OJO.
OJO should be called Oh No! Ugly, old-looking, and poorly-cartoonish. Yes, Websoft PR’s website is trash, yet. your website manages to be even worse. And, it actually makes my head hurt with those garish colors. https://www.ojomg.com/
I worked very successfully for major Financial Brands, Internet startups and digital marketing agencies for more than 15-years in NYC. By 2010, I’d had it!
I too often saw creatiivity stomped-out, a fear of emerging technologies interfering with surrent tools and processes, common-sense ignored for the agencies bottom-lines. Quite often my role as a manager or director was to keep the gravy-train running. I became very frustrated watching and a whole bunch of well-pruned or “connected” executive-types getting paid too much and not doing very much, if any… of the actual work.
In NY since 2010 as TECH SAVVY NYC, my small team and I are now based in San Juan. We’re now BLD BTR (build better), a “lean methodoligies-style business” with most members working remotely.
There are many measurable differences between a professional website and a website that does not comply with professional standards. A shocking number of our local businesses don’t even have a basic informational website.
On an Internet rife with big-name and big-money agencies, it can seem like there’s not much hope or opportunity to compete for the small business owner (aka) the “little guy”.
I want to change that here in Puerto Rico by empowering small business owners to dominate thier local Internet and local industry with modern, responsive adaptive websites that “get to the point” and are SEO-optimized and technical professional and also quantifiably grow the business and with measurement.
Furthermore, as a Google Partner for over 15-years (Engage for Agencies too) we use the best tools and best-in-industry platforms to empower clients. We also can provide training to clients so that they can maintain and update their own websites.
Big corporations and agencies have big budgets so they will engage (and pay) many seperate individuals to accomplish the job; including project managers and product managers and art directors and coders/developers and graphic designers and quality assurance analysts, and on, and on. Then you get to the layers of executives who usually get paid much more than the ones doing the work.
Based on my many, many years of experience I strongly suggest many and most big name fancy pants agencies will charge around 10x what it actually takes to do the job.
This is why a website that should cost $1000 to build, will cost $10K-$15K and a $3k – $5K website will cost you closer to $30K – $50K
